Getting started with audio on Windows

I recently purchased a Zoom H5 handy recorder. Here are some notes I made in getting it to work well on Windows

Objective

Without the H5 turned on:

Reaper in its inputs has:

ASIO recommended

A tip from Reader DAW 101: The Basics was the obvious one about installing the drivers

From Zoom's H5 page and choose the two ASIO Drivers and the VST plugin:

After unzipping and installing the Zoom drivers, and rebooting, Reaper now shows three ASIO drivers:

  • Turn on the Zoom H5
  • Select Audio interface
  • Select Multi Track
  • Ensure the L and R buttons are selected, to send the input from the X/Y capsule
  • In Reaper, select ASIO Driver: Zoom H and F Series Multi ASIO

Which application is using the microphone

Because I use Bitdefender, I can be assured when any application starts using a microphone:
