About me

This is the personal website of Nick Romney (not Mitt Romney, despite what Google's auto-complete suggests:

Nick Romney is a seasoned, hands-on IT professional who helps companies move to the Cloud securely. After two decades of "traditional" IT (telecoms, Infrastructure Management, web development, structured data), he now helps businesses thinking through Security (CISSP, Security+ qualifications), and move to the Cloud (AWS Certified as DevOps Engineer – Professional, SysOps Administrator – Associate, Solutions Architect – Associate and Certified Developer – Associate, and holds MCP 70-532 in "Developing Microsoft Azure Solutions").

Nick's 20+ years of infrastructure management and IT Support means he's used to being responsible for everything with a plug (and certainly everything with an IP address). This means being not just responsible for, but seriously good at configuring, installing, maintaining and upgrading servers, desktops, network devices, printers, and many different operating systems. Increasingly, he’s spending his time with "Serverless" architecture and is adept at getting web services to talk to each other – he occasionally describes himself as an "internet plumber", although has thankfully not been asked to tackle anything with water flowing through it!

A minor tweak to the location of brackets in the menu code to improve performance means that "my" code helps power one in every 6 websites on the Internet and that I'm listed in some illustrious technical company as one of the WordPress copyright holders.

Why the tag line "Running for trains, not the US Presidency"?

During the 2012 US election, suddenly I started getting tagged on Twitter by people who were a little confused by the name "Mitt", and changed it to the altogether more reasonable "Nick".
